Trained by Alessandro Algardi (1598-1654) and entrusted by him with the execution of the church designs planned by him, Baratta came to know Prince Camillo Pamphili. After Algardi's death he oversaw work on S. Agnese on the Piazza Navona, the facade of which was finished according to his own designs. In 1660 Baratta was created member of the Accademia di S. Luca.
