One of several editions of this collection of treatises by the famous Florentine merchant, writer and economist Davanzati (1529-1606), including his two major economic writings of the 1580s: the "Lezione delle monete" and the "Notizia de' cambi". They were published in the present form and with the present title (referring to his history of the Reformation in England) for the first time in 1638 and by 1846 saw at least 14 editions (including an English translation). Carpenter concludes that "this continuing interest reflects Davanzati's significant contribution to monetary theory and the felicity of his style". Schumpeter calls the "Lezione" the "'all-time high', also as regards literary elegance, of the metallist theory of the origin and nature of money".

An attractive copy with ample margins. Sewing somewhat loose, bound in the original temporary boards as issued.
