Impressive documentation of the monument erected for Emperor Francis I of Austria (1768-1835) in the courtyard of the Vienna Hofburg. Planned during the Emperor's lifetime, this fine work by the Milan sculptor Pompeo Marchesi (1789-1858) was not unveiled until 1846. The engraved plates show two general views of the monument, the Emperor's statue, and the corner figures and bas-reliefs on the pedestal. All 15 plates are blindstamped with Marchesi's initials. The iconography in Italian, French and German is by the editor, the classical scholar Francesco Ambrosoli.

From the library of Archduke Albrecht of Saxe-Teschen (1817-95) with his library label on the pastedown. In excellent condition.
