First German edition this illustrated history of foreign military troops in French service by Eugène Fieffé. The translator F. Symon de Carneville extended the history of the foreign legion during the Krim war and the campaign against the Kabyle people in 1856-57. The original French edition was printed in Paris in 1854. The plates depict soldiers of various ranks from many countries, such as Poland, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland and Germany.

The first two pages of the main text (= half-title?) of vol. 2 not present. Good set from the library of Duke Max of Bavaria (1808-1898), father of "Sisi", Elisabeth of Austria (1837-98).
