Second complete German edition. Egidio Albertino's classic Baroque translation also contains de Guevara's popular mirror for magistrates, "Reloj de principes", containing many hints about child care, education, as well as gynecological and cosmetic advice (cf. Hayn/G. II, 704).

Fine roll-tooled binding shows the arms of the Roman Empire, Austria, Lower and Upper Austria (Haebler I, 329, 5) and platestamps of Justitia and Fortuna (I, 89, II & III). Haebler ascribes the tools to the Nuremberg bookbinder Hans Pfister (d. 1600) or the Wittenberg master Hans Dietz (d. 1582): thus, the present volume serves as a fine example for the continuing use of Renaissance stamps for many decades of the 17th century.

Browned and stained throughout; several thumb indices (the last one torn out). Binding rubbed, but altogether nicely preserved.
