First edition of Kossuth's "political testament”, written during his imprisonment in Widdin. After his situation had become untenable, the Hungarian statesman Kossuth (1802-94), the leader of the Hungarian revolution in 1848/49, resigned and fled across the Turkish border. His plans of flying to England were confounded when he was recognized and stopped (cf. Wurzbach XIII, 8ff.).
