Cancellieri, Francesco. Le due nuove campane di Campidoglio [...] con varie notizie sopra i campanili e sopra ogni sorta di orologi ed un'appendice di monumenti.

Rome, Antonio Fulgoni, 1806.

4to. XVI, 200 pp. With engraved frontispiece, engr. title vignette, and 2 engr. vignettes in the text. Contemporary blue unsophisticated wrappers with printed label to spine.

 600.00

First and only edition of this monograph on the two bells just consecrated by Pope Pius VII on the Capitoline Hill in Rome. Michelangelo himself was responsible for the design of the square and the original buildings; still today, the Piazza di Campidoglio is considered "one of the most significant contributions ever made in the history of urban planning" (M. Trachtenberg, Architecture: from Prehistory to Post-Modernism, 313). The first half of the work refers exclusively to bells; then Cancellieri porceeds to detail the building history of the square and its palaces.

Spine of wrappers with small tears; otherwise, a very good, completely uncut copy in its original state.
